Hello from sunny Naramata, British Columbia! I’m home in the Okanagan Valley where i grew up for a few weeks chez Mum overlooking beautiful Okanagan Lake! For my two little city boys, it is a thrill to be in a small town in the mountains! The air is fresh, there is always a breeze and you can smell the wild sage which grows on the surrounding hillside on the wind. We’ve been at the beach most days, but Big Boyand the Little Guy have had so much fun watching the birds at the feeder outside the kitchen window, trying to catch butterflies with the nets their Nana had waiting for them, listening for coyotes in the hills and digging in the garden.I’m so happy to be in the Okanagan again and to give them a few weeks of an alternative life, so different from our urban Toronto routine. Penticton and area has always been a bit crunchy, but the eco/natural movement has grown even larger here, so i can easily find goat milk for Garrett, organic produce ( the organic apricots are just coming into season and the boys are eating about a dozen a day!), and of course, fair trade organic coffee for mama! While I’m here i’m even going to have a business meeting/playdate on the beach with one of Kai Kids’ Vancouver Island suppliers/mompreneurs who happens to be vacationing in this tiny village meeting family as well! I’m also going to check out a local guy who grows lavender (grows like a week here, albeit a fragrant, pretty one) and makes soaps and lotions etc.I’m already making regular trips to the Penticton and Naramata Farmer’s Markets for dried apples and fresh cherry juice from The Dried Fruit Guy. This is one little pocket of Canada where it is so so easy to shop local!
